Raisina Hill

Finally the presidential elections are over in India.
We have for the first time a woman president, who will in turn be the supreme commander of the armed forces.
Is this a time to celebrate?.After all its the first time since the country became independent that we have a woman president.Surely, this is an achievement of sorts.

I beg to differ. This presidential election was the biggest farce seen in recent times.
Democracy has a whole new definition now.
For the politicians,of the politicians and by the politicians.
The very fact that the different political parties lobbied so hard to elect their candidates to Raisina Hill takes away the credibility that surrounds the presidential office.
Its a precedent of sorts for this country.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was the man who brought some sort of transparency, credibility to the post. With him in there,Rashtrapathi Bhavan saw a record number of visitors. He was the man for all seasons.Under him the president was not merely an unreachable entity, who would just sign files, memos and be a rubber stamp.
With his thoughts, mannerisms he brought in a certain sense of belonging. At a time when public perception was that the presidential office would remain an official retirement bungalow, this man changed it all.

Thank you dear president for making a difference to the highest office in the land.
India empowered!!!!!!!!!
