Cricket----No "Monkey" Business this

I never play cricket. It requires one to assume such indecent postures---- Oscar Wilde

Indecent posture was a thing of the past, now its indecent words.
The recent series between India and Australia has taken cricket to a new low.Lately the mouth seems to be the most potent weapon on the cricket field.Presently the gentleman's game is more manly than gentle.

sledging has existed in every sport since time immemorial. The problem arises when sledging takes center stage or becomes bigger than the game and the focus is on antics rather than the sport. Its in these circumstances that the essence of sport is lost.It becomes a mere ritual.A formality that needs to be completed.

"Character is what you do in the dark".
In sport winning is everything but certainly not at the cost of the game. The game is bigger than any individual. The individual may wither away but the game will go on.
Australian cricket is moving towards a stage where the sense of invincibility has gone into their heads.Arrogance has crept into the system. So many years of staying at the top in international cricket has taken a toll on their character. They now truly believe that "the end justifies the means".

Australian cricket has always been a sort of enigma for every other cricketing nation. No other team comes close to them in terms of cricketing ability. They are miles ahead of the pack and will continue to do so because their basics are right.Ricky Ponting would have ended up a drunkard, punter if he had his way but Australian cricket turned him around.Mark Waugh and Shane Warne would have spent more time with horses had it not been for Australian cricket.

Compare this with what the Indian cricket board did with Vinod Kambli. He was considered to be a prodigious talent and a person who could serve Indian cricket for a long time.Somewhere down the line he lost his way and only because the BCCI was a sitting duck.Shane Warne recently stated that he had huge differences with Adam Gilchrist but he put it on the back burner because playing for the country was bigger than anything else.Navjot Singh Sidhu walked out of the England tour citing differences with Azharuddin. The BCCI watched this drama unfold like a soap opera.

Australian cricket has a lot of pluses.
Its up to them to decide which way they want go.
Either they can scale the zenith or dive deep into an unforeseen nadir.
